Business & Commercial

gombak height container business park @ GOMBAK

Gombak Height Container Business Park, is a contemporary commercial development set within the scenic, hilly terrain of Gombak, Selangor. The design explores the adaptive reuse of industrial shipping containers, assembling modular units alongside a dedicated multipurpose hall to form a dynamic and flexible commercial environment. Responding directly to the site’s natural topography, the development is arranged in a terraced configuration that enhances views, reduces visual bulk, and creates a layered spatial experience. The vibrant, multi-coloured container façades establish a youthful and energetic identity, while open-air decks, cantilevered walkways, and generous voids promote natural ventilation and outdoor engagement suited to the tropical climate.

Conceived as a lively community destination rather than a conventional commercial strip, the business park integrates retail, dining, and social spaces within a clear and intuitive circulation network. The ground level prioritises accessibility through integrated parking and pedestrian-friendly pathways, while upper levels transform container rooftops into shaded alfresco seating areas overlooking the surrounding landscape. The raw, industrial character of the steel modules is deliberately balanced with lush greenery, creating a strong dialogue between built form and nature. Anchored by a large multipurpose hall, the development extends beyond daily commerce to support events, gatherings, and creative activities positioning the park as a vibrant social and economic catalyst within Gombak.

MORTEN WALK @ Kg Morten

This project, titled Morten Walk, is a vibrant container-based business hub located in the heart of Melaka City Centre, reimagining the riverfront as a lively, contemporary public destination. The architectural concept adopts a modular pop-up language, repurposing shipping container units into a flexible and multi-functional commercial ecosystem. Positioned along the historic Malacca River, the development embraces an open-air, pedestrian-oriented layout that remains visually and physically connected to its surroundings. Bold applications of primary colours, from bright yellows to deep magentas, give the container façades a strong modern identity and create a striking contrast with the refined character of Melaka’s UNESCO-listed heritage context.

At the urban scale, the master plan is driven by permeability, social interaction, and adaptability. Wide pedestrian walkways, shaded plazas, and pockets of greenery encourage lingering and casual encounters, while tiered seating areas and festoon lighting activate the space into the evening, transforming the hub into a vibrant night-time destination. The use of industrial materials such as steel containers and tensile fabric canopies supports a sustainable, low-impact construction approach while allowing flexibility for future growth and change. More than a commercial development, Morton Walk acts as a platform for local entrepreneurs and creatives, revitalising the riverfront and reinforcing Melaka’s evolving urban narrative through contemporary architectural expression.

PASAR KERAMAT @ KUALA LUMPUR

The architectural design of Pasar Keramat in Kuala Lumpur presents a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Malaysian wet market, emphasizing functional clarity and strong urban integration. The development comprises a series of low rise, elongated blocks articulated by a rhythmic sequence of gabled roof forms that promote natural ventilation while referencing the vernacular language of local shophouses. The façade combines solid masonry elements with industrial folding shutters, enabling openness and airflow during operating hours while ensuring security after closing. Positioned against a backdrop of surrounding high rise residential towers, the market retains a human scaled presence that functions as both a physical and social connector between the dense urban environment and the street.

Site planning is driven by pedestrian permeability and operational efficiency within a constrained urban setting. Wide, paved walkways run alongside the primary structures, accommodating generous pedestrian movement and encouraging informal street level interaction. Integrated parking bays and clearly defined loading zones support the intensive commercial activities of the market without disrupting public circulation. The material strategy remains intentionally restrained, employing a neutral palette of whites and greys that allows the vivid colours of fresh produce and daily market life to stand out. Through the use of deep roof overhangs for tropical shading and clear visual connections across the central plaza, the design establishes a comfortable, legible, and welcoming community hub that reinforces the site’s long standing role as a neighbourhood landmark.
